La deformitat es diu aix\u00ed a causa del cirurgi\u00e0 alemany Ernst Stahl, qui la va descriure per primera vegada en 1845.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tamb\u00e9 es coneix com a \u00aborella d&#8217;elf\u00bb pel fet que la forma del pavell\u00f3 auricular, el seu anormalment punxeguda, que \u00e9s similar a la forma comunament associada amb els elfs en la cultura popular. L&#8217;aur\u00edcula punxeguda i anormalment gran pot fer que l&#8217;orella tingui un aspecte similar al d&#8217;un elf, per aix\u00f2 se&#8217;l coneix per aquest nom.
